From September 14-17, 2017, the Shrine celebrated with joy the 10th anniversary of the beatification of Father Basil Moreau. On Thursday September 14, feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Rémi de Saulieu O’Toole and Pierre-Evenn de Fremond entered the postulant program of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the presence of 400 students from Notre-Dame d’Orveau. The following day, the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (patronal feast of the Congregation of Holy Cross) was celebrated with solemn vespers and a concert of sacred music featuring soprano Diana Higbee and the orchestra known as “Concerts du Mans.” On Saturday September 16, Msgr. Jean-Louis Bruguès, O.P., archbishop-bishop emeritus of Angers and currently archivist/librarian of the Vatican, presented a conference entitled “In the school of the Saints,” followed by a question and answer session with young people. Saturday evening’s prayer vigil, which included an audio/visual presentation on the life and works of Blessed Basil Moreau, concluded with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for an all-night Eucharistic Adoration. On Sunday, September 17, morning prayer was followed by a journey of discovery for young people throughout the city of Le Mans. On Sunday afternoon, Msgr. Yves Le Saux, bishop of Le Mans, celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving for the 10 years of beatification of Basil Moreau, holy priest of Le Mans and founder of the religious family of Holy Cross. An exposition on the life and legacy of Blessed Basil Moreau is on display at the Maison Saint-Julien (diocesan center) until October 21. Photos of the festive weekend may be found below. Others will follow soon.
