On Tuesday, January 6, we celebrated Saint André Bessette (1845-1937), religious of Holy Cross. Humble doorman in Montreal, he had a deep attention to the afflicted and a fervent devotion to Saint Joseph, inspiring the construction of the Oratory depicted on one of the stained glass windows of the Holy Cross Church. During the 9am Mass, Father John De Riso, csc, proposed the sacrament of the sick to the parishioners (unfortunately few because of the snow) who desired to receive it. It is the sacrament of the presence of the Lord at our side in moments of trial such as illness or old age. It reminds us of all the tenderness of Jesus Christ towards the most fragile. At the end of Mass, we went into procession to the place dedicated to Saint André in the church.
